Norfolk Cricket Board Coach of the Year 2013 - Tom Davies

Tom Davies has had an excellent year in his numerous coaching roles within Norfolk Cricket. The Norfolk Cricket Board are very proud of our own coaches and because of Tom's continued effort in 2013 for club and county we felt he was well and truely worth his nomination for one of the Sky Sports Coaches of the Year awards. Tom was rewarded with national recognition when he picked up his award on the pitch at the lunch interval on day 3 at the Kia Oval during the 5th Ashes Test.

As Captain and lead coach of Cromer Cricket Club, Tom has implemented a disciplined training regime for the senior players which has been a contributing factor in the club achieving promotion back to the Norfolk Alliance Premier Division having been relegated in 2011. Tom also runs the medium sized youth section at the clubmarked club which caters for approximately 70 young players from U9 to U15. He coaches at most sessions and organises much of the coaching support for the programme.

In recent years Tom has become increasingly involved in Norfolk Cricket Board coaching activities. His passion for coaching, excellent communication skills and empathy for the needs of the players in his care are all reasons for his continuing elevation with Norfolk as a coach of note and significant potential. He coaches now regularly on U14, U15 boys, U17 Girls and also has taken on the role of lead coach for the Norfolk Women’s team.

This last role has been a real test of Tom’s ability as a coach and also leader and mediator. He took on the towards the end of the 2012 season when the Women’s team was going through some turmoil. With other off field support he has helped transform the atmosphere within the squad to one of fun and enjoyment, allowing players to flourish free from personality clashes which had blighted that season.

This is testament to his ability to create the right environment for players to achieve their potential and get the most from a session. County Managers, parents and other coaches have been highly impressed with Tom’s coaching ability and style.

Tom has now been recruited to help with NCB’s Chance to Shine programmes in 2013, both in High Schools and Primary Schools.

He is also a regular tutor on Norfolk’s successful Coach Education programme and is a popular and valued member of the team.

He is now an integral part of the coaching scene in Norfolk and we hope he will continue to develop in to one of the county’s leading coaches
