Horsford Cricket Club receives grant awards from the England and Wales Cricket Trust and Sport England

The England and Wales Cricket Trust (EWCT) is pleased to announce that the Horsford Cricket Club has received grant awards from the EWCT and Sport England.

The EWCT’s grant aid programme aims to finance capital projects, including renovations to improve facilities which contribute to sustaining and increasing participation. Horsford Cricket Club was identified by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Norfolk Cricket Board as a club of strategic importance and because of the strength of their junior development programme.

The England and Wales Cricket Trust made a £45,000 grant and a £10,000 interest free loan towards the cost of a new changing facility on their second playing area which is used by the club’s junior sides.  Sport England made a £50,000 grant through their Inspired Facilities Fund and Norfolk County Council also supported the development (£10,000).  The total project cost was approximately £118,000.

Horsford Cricket Club, Club Development Manager, Philip Heyburn said: “We were delighted when we were awarded the grants because we urgently needed to provide an up-grade in the changing facilities for use on our second playing area.”

“In recent years the club has made good progress and we have achieved ECB Clubmark and Focus Club status and this enabled us to apply for the grants.  We have four Saturday league sides, age group teams from Under 9s to 17s and we have over 100 junior members – both boys and girls.  As an extension of our junior development programme we also provide coaching and play opportunities in the local schools.  Norfolk County Cricket Club stage matches on the main ground and we also provide match facilities for the Norfolk Age Group teams.”

“We are extremely grateful to the England and Wales Cricket Trust, Sport England and Norfolk County Council for their most generous financial support.  We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to be able to go ahead with this project in the present economic climate.  The new facility built to ECB specification will have two large changing rooms with toilets and showers with facilities for people with disabilities and will be completed in advance of season 2014.”

EWCT Trustee, Brian Havill, said, “The England and Wales Cricket Trust is pleased to support Horsford Cricket Club because of the efforts they have made in the development of the game and especially at junior level.  It is important that cricket clubs have access to funding, such as through this grant aid programme, that allows them to make their facilities available to the local community and schools and community groups.”

ECB National Funding and Facilities Manager Bruce Cruse, said: “Investing in worthy projects like this one allows cricket clubs to make their facilities as welcoming and accessible as possible to members, players and spectators.  Having high quality cricket facilities accessible to the community will be key to sustaining participation in grass roots cricket over the coming years.”
