Special Schools Table Cricket competition 2014

Special Schools Table Cricket competition 2014

This year’s Table Cricket event for The Special Schools confirmed the huge strides that have made over the last year in the sport with a magnificent turn out of ten teams competing, drawn from seven schools.

The day was hosted at John Grant School in Caister with four tables in operation. Norfolk Cricket Board coaches acted as umpires with support from Ellen Vanlint, Active Norfolk who co-ordinated the results and we were delighted to welcome representatives from The Lords Taverners who pioneered the game, Les Rowland & Gary Towers.

The teams were split into two groups of five with results as follows :

Group winners The Clare School and John Grant then contested the final with Clare setting a very competitive total  of 279-2 and whilst John Grant only lost three wickets they finished 55 runs short of their target.

For the fifth year running The Clare School ( pictured ) were declared champions and will now compete the Regional Lords Taverners competition with the National Final at Lords in June.

During the winter period most of the schools have received regular coaching from NCB coaches through The Chance to Shine scheme and Kevin Denmark, who put the day together said he was delighted with the numbers of teams which is a County record.  ‘ The children have all had a fantastic day and demonstrates the diversity of our cricket programme ‘

Huge thanks to all the players, teachers and helpers and especially to John Grant School for hosting the event.
