Chance 2 Compete - Under 14 boys 2014

Chance 2 Compete - Under 14 boys 2014

Boys cricket broke new ground this year with the inaugural Chance 2 Compete indoor tournament taking place at the UEA Sportspark. Six high schools took part playing 6-a side with matches competed over 12 overs per side.

Litcham School and Framingham Earl set the early pace winning their 1st two matches quite comfortably. Northgate High School from Dereham entered two teams following a late withdrawal – their 1st team got off the mark in beating Flegg High School however their 2nd team never really got going and finished losing each of their matches.

Taverham High School won their 1st match of the morning but after that struggled against the stronger teams failing to win another match.

The round robin competition came to an excellent climax in the last round of matches with Framingham Earl batting 1st against Litcham with both teams un-defeated to this point. They set a challenging total of 266 – 7 which reduced to 231 after deductions for wickets lost. Litcham batted steadily and their policy of keeping wickets in hand paid handsome dividends  as their last pair saw them over the line in the last over of the match to win by the narrow margin of seven runs having lost just four wickets.

The Litcham team are pictured with the trophy which we now hope will be an annual competition – all the schools are part of The Chance to Shine High Schools cricket programme which sees cricket clubs being set up at the school with the children taking the lead in terms of management and leadership. Litcham were supported on the day by the four leaders who run the Club at their school who also doubled up as umpires and scorers.

Kevin Denmark put the day together and commented that the day had been a huge success and encouraged all players to get involved at their local cricket Club’s.
