County Kwik Cricket Finals 2014

Kwik Cricket Report 2014

The Norfolk Cricket Board have recently hosted the finals of The County Kwik Cricket competitions with schools around the County having competed in qualifying events across their respective partnerships.

Girls County Finals

8 schools competed on a damp day at Old Buckenham Cricket Club although the girls did not a bit of rain get in the way with competition fierce during the day.

Split into two groups of four with the top two progressing to the semi-finals where Attleborough Junior beat St Mary’s and Martham Primary beat Mundesley Junior. In the final Attleborough set a competitive total of 270-3 and whilst Martham tried hard they finished 20 runs short of their victory target.

Mixed County Finals

16 schools assembled on a sunny morning at Manor Park at the end of June for what is one of the highlights of the schools cricket programme. As always the group stages were keenly contested with 8 progressing to the quarter finals.

Heavy rain set in after lunch with the competition abandoned for the day before the semi-finals could be played to the disappointment of everybody.

The four schools involved opted for another date and we were grateful to Norwich Cricket Club who agreed to host at Postwick.

The first semi-final went down to the last over when St Williams Primary lost two wickets in pursuit of a victory target of 242 set by Glebe House School to lose by just 8 runs.

In the second match things were a bit clearer cut with Blofield Primary beating East Harling Primary by 38 runs without losing a wicket.

Glebe batted first in the final and set a total of 251-2 with Blofield quickly up against it when losing 4 wickets in the first two overs. They never really recovered and finished up losing by 28 runs.

We are very grateful to Sara Worley who pulled the whole event together and the hosting Clubs.
