Ford 99 not – out as Anglians win the NACO Shield

Oliver Ford was left stranded on 99 not-out as his team Anglians won the NACO Shield on Sunday 17th August by beating Winterton by 60 runs.

Once early morning rain had cleared Anglians won the toss and elected to bat in front of a healthy crowd in the final held at Old Buckenham.

Winterton bowled and fielded well but could not prevent Anglians reaching 245 off 50 overs with Olly Ford scoring an impressive 99 not-out.

For Winterton the pick of their bowlers were George Hudson with 3 for 52 and Danny Snowling with 3 for 34.

Winterton struggled for early runs and also lost early wickets which always put them behind in the run chase, however a well struck 63 from Peter Tilbrook kept them in contention.

Wickets however kept falling and Winterton were finally dismissed for 185 off 48 overs leaving them 60 runs short of the Anglians total.

Ford’s performance with the bat won him the man of the match award; a brand new cricket bat presented by the NACO chairman John Tythcott.

Anglians therefore are winners of the 2014 competition which has left the organisers delighted with the response from Norfolk clubs.

The competition has been played in good spirit and all competing clubs have been a credit to themselves and the game in general.
