‘Norwich CEYMS’ Norfolk U13 Girls Season Report 2014

The U13 Girls have had a brilliant season, being undefeated throughout their league games and finishing top of their group. They started off the season with a win over local rivals Suffolk, chasing down 132. Great wins over Cambridgeshire, who Norfolk bowled out for 70, and Huntingdonshire followed, putting the girls in a great position for the second half of the season.

The best performance of the season was a real team effort. The girls scored the highest total achieved by a Norfolk U13 Girls side against Suffolk, hitting 241 off their 35 overs. All the players contributed during this game, however the stand out performance was Beth Harmer hitting a brilliant 108 off 87 balls, a score which was the second highest achieved in this age group nationally.

In the final two league matches against Leicestershire, the team continued their winning performances. The girls got off to a flyer in one game with Emily Heuschneider opening with a wicket first ball. Another top fielding and bowling performance from the whole team led to the girls needing only 70, a total they chased down in just 15 overs, giving the team their final league win of the season.

Following the end of the league season, the team went on tour to Malvern. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves playing some great cricket and lots of games against tougher opposition. There were definitely some tense moments and many close games. Tour was a great finale for a fantastic season.

There were many highlights from throughout the season with many players performing with the bat and all the girls excelling with their fielding.

Batting highlights included:

- Robyn Edge who scored 39 v Suffolk, 70 v Huntingdonshire and 40 v Sussex

- Jade Hoyte who hit her maiden county 50  against Huntingdonshire and a quickfire 42 v Suffolk

- Lucy Witheridge’s 32* and Gabby Lockwood’s 22 against Suffolk.

This season, Jade Hoyte (best figures 4-10 against Leicestershire) and Eleanor Pringle (figures of 3-19 against Suffolk and 3-21 v Leicestershire) both took 11 wickets, placing them as joint top wicket takers with 11 wickets each.

Other bowling highlights included:

- Holly Marchant’s 3 for 8 v Huntingdonshire

- Beth Harmer’s 3-11 v Cambridgeshire

- Anoushka Williamson’s 3-4 against Nottinghamshire

This season, the girls always played with great team spirit, positive attitudes, enthusiasm and support for each other. Against every opposition, they stood out as the better team, a group of friends with lots of talent. They always came off the pitch with smiles on their faces, proud to be part of the Norfolk team - one of the reasons they were so successful. A special congratulations goes to Robyn who was the top wicket keeper for her age group nationally, well done.
