Garboldisham Women Complete Indoor Double

Garboldisham Women Complete Indoor Double

Sunday 29th March 2015 - Women's Indoor League Final 2:45pm

Topcroft (Winner of Group 2) vs Garboldisham (Winner of Group 1)

The cumulation of this year’s Women’s Indoor league saw new finalists with both Garboldisham CC and Topcroft CC winning their respective sections and hence we were guaranteed a new name on the trophy.

The final did not disappoint with Garboldisham batting first and setting a challenging total of 247-6 which reduced to 217 after the deduction of five runs per wicket lost. To reach this stage of the competition was a real triumph for the Topcroft team who were formed just over 12 months ago and in 2014 lost all their matches however after 11 balls of their reply they had reached 140 without the loss of any wickets with an upset on the cards.

However wickets began to fall regularly and gradually the more experienced Garboldisham girls exerted their authority where after eight overs the last pair needed an improbable 96 for victory. They did well to add another 50 runs but finished 49 runs short of their target and Garboldisham ( pictured ) were crowned champions.

Lewis Denmark (NCB Competition Organiser) had this to say after the final was completed. "This year all of our indoor leagues have grown greater than any of us could have imagined and the Women's Indoor League was a great example of this. The standard is improving every year which is great to see and this was reflected with two new teams in the final. Congratulations to Garboldisham who were worthy winners on the day but Topcroft can hold their heads high after a great indoor season. They finished bottom of Group 2 last year losing every game but this year were unbeaten in their group and were only defeated in the final game. I would like to thank every team who competed this winter and wish you all the very best for the season ahead and look forward to working with you all again in 2016"
