NORTHANTS V NORFOLK - 10 MAY 2015

NORTHANTS WON BY 1 RUN

Norfolk Link Construction Under 14’s got their season underway with a trip to Northants. The hosts elected to bat first and posted 189 for 6. The ever reliable Charlie Rogers returning figures of 7 - 2 - 8 - 0, debutant Tom Bailon bowled beautifully with Toby Adams also picking up a couple of wickets.

In reply Norfolk got off to a good start with Tyler Murphy and Flynn Drinkell putting on 85 for the first wicket. Unfortunately Norfolk failed to capitalise and although Hudson De Lucci got a quick 35, Norfolk lost their final wicket with 2 runs short of victory.

LINCOLNSHIRE V NORFOLK - 17 MAY 2015

LINCOLNSHIRE WON BY 6 WICKETS

Norfolk Link Construction Under 14’s took on Lincolnshire in their second friendly of the season with a side that was carrying a few injuries, to say the least. Batting first, Murphy and Drinkell again put on a great opening stand of 123. Tyler batting quite beautifully for his 71 but again Norfolk didn’t capitalise and stagnated soon after his dismissal, with Norfolk only managing 177 for 6 from their 45 overs when 200 plus was looking likely.

Lincolnshire made comfortable work of the chase winning with 5 overs and 6 wickets in hand. Sam Tinkler was by far the pick of the Norfolk bowlers. Many thanks to Harry Williams and Fergus Hughes for stepping in at such short notice.

NORFOLK V BEDFORDSHIRE – 24 MAY 2015

NORFOLK WON BY 24 RUNS

Norfolk entertained Bedfordshire in a reduced 30 over fixture at Great Witchingham.

The visitors won the toss and chose to put Norfolk into bat on a very damp track. Flynn Drinkell and Tyler Murphy again got Norfolk off to a positive start before Flynn was bowled for 34. Tyler continued to play with maturity along with Skipper Will Grisley. Tyler reaching 42 in the penultimate over with Will reaching a swift 50 in the final over.

Norfolk finished their innings on 164 for 3.

In reply all the Norfolk bowlers restricted the Bedfordshire batsmen with some accurate bowling and as expected of this side the ground fielding was again first class.

Bedfordshire finished 24 runs short of the required target with Freddie Steward (2), Alex Quinton (1) and Charlie Rogers (1) the wicket takers.

ESSEX V NORFOLK - 7 June 2015 (ECB Cup)

ESSEX WON BY 130 RUNS

Norfolk got their ECB campaign underway at Felsted School, Essex.

The hosts won the toss and chose to bat and made batting look decidedly easy posting a huge total of 317 for 4.  All the Norfolk bowlers struggled with their lines with Sam Tinkler (2 for 49) and Alex Quinton (2 for 41) taking wickets.

Chasing such a total was always going to prove a big ask but Flynn Drinkell (42) and Hudson de Lucchi (33) chipped away at the total.  A brisk 23 from George Bowman as well as Freddie Steward’s 21 allowed Norfolk to reach 187 all out.

A disappointing start to the competition.

NORFOLK VS KENT - 21 JUNE 2015 (ECB Cup)

KENT WON BY 4 WICKETS

Norfolk entertained Kent at Gt Witchingham and were put into bat.

Runs were hard to come by but Tyler Murphy dug in along with Hudson de Lucchi (26).  Tyler finally being dismissed for 45.  At 123 for 6 Norfolk looked in a bit of trouble but a superb 38 not out from Dan Arnold and George Bowman making a brisk 23 allowed Norfolk to post 197 for 9.

Norfolk had the visitors in all sorts of trouble at 28 for 4 and looked in complete control.  With 10 overs remaining Kent required 81 with 5 wickets remaining.  This is where Norfolk lost their discipline and, along with some positive batting, somehow Kent reached their target with 2 overs to spare and 4 wickets remaining.  Charlie Rogers taking 3 for 40 but the pick of the Norfolk bowlers was Flynn Drinkell who bowled 8 overs (0 for 19).

HERTFORDSHIRE VS NORFOLK - 28 JUNE 2015 (ECB Cup)

NORFOLK WON BY 49 RUNS

Norfolk travelled to Hertfordshire for their latest ECB fixture. Norfolk were put into bat in a reduced 36 over game and got off to a solid start, with Tyler Murphy, Will Grisley and Hudson de Lucchi all getting starts. Flynn Drinkell batted superbly and looked set for a very big total before finally falling for a vital 79. Alex Quinton scored some brisk runs at the end of the innings and Norfolk reached 198 for 9.

In reply, Hertfordshire were always in trouble, courtesy of some superb bowling from the pace of Sam Tinkler and the guile of Charlie Rogers. At 11 for 4 Hertfordshire needed to steady the ship, a superb 81 from D Burnell was exactly what was required. Wickets continued to fall at the other end and Norfolk eased to victory by 4 runs.

Some quite excellent bowling from Sam Tinkler (4 for 25), Tyler Murphy (3 for 25), Dan Arnold (2 for 30) and Charlie Rogers (1 for 13), who were the wicket takers.

NORFOLK VS SURREY- 12 JULY 2015 (ECB Cup)

SURREY WON BY 7 WICKETS

Norfolk entertained Surrey at Gt Witchingham. Put into bat, Norfolk got off to a superb start, with Flynn Drinkell and Tyler Murphy batting quite brilliantly and putting Surrey bowlers to the sword. At 66 for 0 Norfolk were hopeful of a large total and 76 for 0, this still looked possible but after Flynn (45) and Tyler (40) departed none of the other Norfolk batters coped with the Surrey bowlers. Norfolk proceeded to lose the next 10 wickets for 52 runs.

Surrey made light work of knocking off the small total of 129 for the loss of just 3 wickets. A disappointing day which started so promisingly for Norfolk but full credit to Surrey who were worthy winners.

NORFOLK VS SUSSEX - 24 JULY 2015 (ECB Cup)

NO RESULT – MATCH ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

This match was abandoned after only 5.3 overs due to rain. 24 hours of rain feel from 12:00pm Friday until 12:00pm Saturday. Over a months’ worth of rain fell in this period which meant cricket was impossible as a boating lake formed over the ground.

CAMBRIDGESHIRE VS NORFOLK – 26 JULY 2015 (ECB Cup)

NO RESULT – MATCH ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

This match was cancelled with no play possible due to adverse weather. Another disappointing washout as heavy rain fell constantly from 1pm until 9pm. Overall one of the worst weekends for cricket you are likely to see in East Anglia.

BROMSGROVE FESTIVAL 2015 – Tuesday 28th July – Friday 31st July

Norfolk travelled to Worcestershire for their 3 day festival at Bromsgrove School.

DAY ONE – NORFOLK U14 VS DORSET U14

NO RESULT – MATCH ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN

Dorset were the opponents on Day 1.  Norfolk had reached 130 for 4 before rain called a halt to their proceedings.

Hudson grafted on a very green track and had reached 55 not out and Jack Ashford played superbly for his 29.

DAY TWO – NORFOLK U14 v OXFORDSHIRE U14

OXFORDSHIRE WON BY 4 WICKETS

Norfolk were put into bat and after a steady start, thanks to Charlie Nunn 36 and Charlie Rogers, wickets then began to fall.  Norfolk completed their innings and were bowled out for only 110.

In reply, Norfolk made Oxford work hard for their runs with Sam Tinkler bowling his 9 overs for just 11 runs.  In fact all the Norfolk bowlers returned impressed figures but defending such a small total was always going to be tough.  Oxford reached their target in the 39th over for the loss of 4 wickets.

DAY THREE – NORFOLK U14 v ENGLAND WOMEN DEVELOPMENT Under 19

EDW WON BY 125 RUNS

An interesting fixture against England Women’s Development Under 19’s was Norfolk’s final fixture.  England were put into bat and played positively from the outset, with all their batsmen making contributions.  Charlie Rogers 3 for 40, Sam Tinkler 2 for 34 and Tyler Murphy 2 for 7 were the main Norfolk wicket takers.  England posted 179, all out, from their 45 overs.

Unfortunately Norfolk produced their poorest batting display all season.  Charlie Rogers 27, was the only highlight.  Norfolk losing by 125 runs.

NORFOLK V MIDDLESEX - GARBOLDISHAM CC - 2 AUGUST 2015

MIDDLESEX WON BY 7 WICKETS

Norfolk entertained Middlesex at Garboldisham on a beautiful sunny day.  Batting first Norfolk struggled again to build any partnerships and with runs hard to come by Norfolk were bowled out for 123.

Middlesex won comfortably by 7 wickets but the spirit shown by the Norfolk side was superb.  They bowled with pace and aggression and the ground fielding was again excellent.  It took Middlesex to the 30th over to reach their target.

NORFOLK V SUFFOLK - BROOKE CC- 14 AUGUST 2015

SUFFOLK WON BY 4 WICKETS

Norfolk’s final game of the season was versus Suffolk at Brooke.  The early start made the toss crucial and unfortunately for Norfolk, they were put into bat in near perfect bowling conditions.

Norfolk battled hard and posted 144.

In reply, Norfolk put Suffolk under pressure from ball 1 and at 40 for 5 looked as if they could pull off a great victory.  But it was not to be, Suffolk reaching their target in only the 33rd over for the loss of 6 wickets.  Dan Arnold 3 for 27, Sam Tinkler 2 for 42, Charlie Rogers 1 for 28 were the Norfolk wicket takers.
