Norfolk vs Cambridgeshire - Friday 29th May - Topcroft CC

CAMBRIDGESHIRE WON BY 8 WICKETS

Norfolk 168-5 from 50 Overs
Cambridgeshire 169-2 from 48 Overs

The Norfolk U13's, sponsored by Eastern Voice and Data, started their season with a defeat against a strong Cambridgeshire team. In a match blighted by the weather and reduced to 30 overs at Topcroft Cricket Club, Norfolk lost the toss and were put into bat on a green wicket.

Weather conditions were not conducive to batting and Norfolk lost quick wickets to find themselves 36-3 after 10 overs. At 20 overs Norfolk had reached 88-4 but a flurry of runs in the last 10 overs enabled the home team to reach 168-5 in their allotted overs. This was achieved by a fine knock of 50 not out (retired) by Dan Hastings, ably supported by Callum Metcalf, who scored 36, and Aidan Browne's 27.

When Cambridgeshire batted they lost an a wicket in the third over which raised the hopes of the Norfolk team. But an unbeaten 120 stand by the next Cambridgeshire batting pair took the game away (both retired on 50). They lost only one more wicket before comfortably winning by 8 wickets with 2 overs to spare. The Norfolk bowlers too often bowled short and wide and lessons need to be learnt before their next match.

Many thanks to Topcroft CC for hosting the game

Bedfordshire vs Norfolk – Sunday 7th June – Potten CC

NORFOLK WON BY 5 WICKETS

Bedfordshire 171-6 from 40 Overs
Norfolk 172-5 from 36 Overs

Norfolk U13's, sponsored by Eastern Voice and Data, beat Bedfordshire in a match held at Potten CC with an excellent all round performance.

Bedfordshire scored 171-6 off their allotted 40 overs. Matthew Austin was the pick of the bowlers taking his first county wickets and returned figures of 2 - 26.

Norfolk replied and got off to a comfortable start losing their first wicket at 71. Thereafter, despite a couple of scares when quick wickets fell, Norfolk got home with nearly 4 overs to spare losing just 5 wickets. Top scorers were George Harrad 56, Harry Williams 33 and Callum Metcalf 27.

Norfolk vs Buckenhamshire – Sunday 14th June – Saxlingham CC

NORFOLK WON BY 7 WICKETS

Buckenhamshire 107 All Out from 40 Overs
Norfolk 108/3 from 37 Overs

Norfolk under 13s, sponsored by Eastern Voice and Data, comfortably beat Buckinghamshire under 13s by 7 wickets at Saxlingham Cricket Club on Sunday.

Bucks won the toss and surprisingly chose to bat. Good pressure by the Norfolk bowlers restricted Bucks to just 40 runs off the first 20 overs. Tight bowling and a lively fielding performance was the feature of the innings and Bucks completed their innings on 107 when their final batsman was out in the 40th over. Pick of the bowlers were Dan Hastings with 3 - 14 and James Hardy with 2 - 28.

A solid start from Norfolk ended on 42 when Harry Williams was out for 21. Sensible batting by George Harrad (45 no) and Dani Long (29) ensured that Norfolk cruised home with over 13 overs to spare.

Suffolk vs Norfolk – Sunday 21st June 2015 – Brandeston School

NORFOLK WON BY 50 RUNS

Norfolk 209/7 from 40 Overs
Suffolk 149 All Out

Norfolk Under 13's, sponsored by Eastern Voice and Data, extended their unbeaten run with a 50 run victory against Suffolk.

Norfolk won the toss and elected to bat. A 74 run opening partnership was enough to ensure that the middle order batsmen had a base to work from. All of the Norfolk batsmen contributed and at the end of the allotted 40 overs Norfolk had accumulated 209-7 with the major contributions from George Harrad (74), Aidan Browne (34) and Eddie Darley (29).

When Norfolk bowled the runs were kept to a minimum during the first 10 overs with Suffolk on 32-0. By squeezing the batsmen the bowlers then got on top and 10 Suffolk wickets fell regularly and they were bowled out for 149. The best bowling figures were recorded by Jacob Rhodes (3-25) and Matthew Austin (3-24). The fielding by the Norfolk boys was quite extraordinary and two of the catches made by Harrad and Austin were of the highest quality. A real team performance and a very entertaining day of cricket.

Norfolk vs Lincolnshire – Sunday 19th July 2015 – Brooke CC

NORFOLK WON BY 8 WICKETS

Lincolnshire 158-7 from 40 Overs
Norfolk 159-2 from 30 Overs

Norfolk Under 13's sponsored by Eastern Voice and Data, returned to winning ways with a comfortable 8 wicket victory against Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire won the toss and elected to bat on a "flat track" with a fast outfield. The Norfolk bowlers, assisted by some good fielding, restricted Lincolnshire to a mere 22 runs (for the loss of one wicket) from the first 10 overs. After 20 overs Norfolk were in control of the game with the score standing at 54-3 and at 30 overs 93-5 seemed a score that was well below par. However, a fine 67 partnership by the Lincolnshire middle order for the 6th wicket brought some respectability to the final score of 158-7. Aiden Browne returned excellent bowling figures of 4-37 in his allotted 8 overs.

When Norfolk replied, the Lincolnshire bowlers initially made life difficult for the openers restricting them to just 13 runs off the first 6 overs. However, after a couple of early wickets Harry Williams (92no) and Callum Metcalf (56no) steered Norfolk home with exactly 10 overs to spare with an excellent unbeaten partnership of 124 runs.

Nottinghamshire U13 vs Norfolk U13 – Sunday 9th August 2015 – Kinoulton CC

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE WON BY 82 RUNS

Nottinghamshire 200-8 from 40 Overs
Norfolk 118 All Out from 38 Overs

In their penultimate match of the season, Norfolk Under 13's travelled to Kinoulton CC to play Nottinghamshire. The opposition won the toss and elected to bat on a sunny afternoon but on an interesting wicket.

Nottinghamshire started very slowly and after 10 overs had scored 30 runs without loss. Gradually the batsmen started to play their shots and after 20 overs they had reached 89-1 and looked set to break loose. After 30 overs they totalled 144-1 and a score well in excess of 200 looked certain. Norfolk, however, fought back and restricted the opposition to just 56 off the last 10 overs and the innings was concluded at 200 for the loss of 5 wickets. Callum Metcalf recorded the best figures of 2-14 off his 8 overs.

When Norfolk batted they were confronted with two good seam bowlers who bowled very straight and after 10 overs Norfolk were 26-4 with all four of the wickets being out bowled. Norfolk moved to 69-5 after 20 overs but runs were hard to come by against some very tight bowling. Norfolk were finally bowled out for 118 in the 38th over to lose by 82 and, in fairness, never looked like threatening the required target score. Callum Metcalf hit a good 37 and Will Hollis supported well with a hard- earned 22.

Bromsgrove Festival Tour – Sunday 2nd August to Sunday 4th August

Day One – Norfolk vs Wiltshire

NORFOLK WON BY 43 RUNS

Norfolk 201 All Out from 44 Overs
Wiltshire 158 All Out from 35 Overs

On the first day of the Under 13 cricket festival held at Bromsgrove School, Norfolk played Wiltshire in a 45 overs match. Winning the toss, Norfolk chose to bat on a flat wicket with long boundary to either side. Norfolk got off to a steady start and lost their first wicket in the 17th over with the score at 60 when Callum Metcalfe was caught for 43. Jacob Rhodes was next man out for 28 with the score on 87. A quick fire partnership of 36 between George Harrad (46) and Dani Long-Martinez (23) enabled Norfolk to reach 160 for 4 from 34 overs. A score in excess of 225 looked possible given the strength of Norfolk's batting line up. However, a mini collapse occurred and the Wiltshire bowling and fielding suddenly improved as a result. In the end, Norfolk were bowled out for 201 on the first ball of the 44th over.

When Wiltshire batted they looked very solid but Norfolk struck with 2 quick wickets in the 15th over with the score on 60. By the 28th over Wiltshire found themselves stuttering on 111 -7 and a Norfolk victory looked certain. However, the 8th wicket pair put on a very confident 33 runs and it began to feel like Wiltshire could achieve their target. They had obviously changed their batting line up and batted some top order players in the tail. However, once the 8th wicket partnership was broken the following two wickets fell quickly and Wiltshire were bowled out for 158 leaving Norfolk as winners by 43 runs. The pick of the Norfolk bowlers were James Hardy 3-27, Matthew Austin 2-16 and Dan Hastings 2-16.

Northants vs Norfolk – Sunday 16th August – Overstone Park CC

NORFOLK WON BY 67 RUNS

Norfolk 186-6 from 40 Overs
Northants 119 All Out from 33 Overs

Norfolk U13's played their final game of the season against Northants at Overstone Park CC and saved their best performance until the very end.

Put into bat first, Norfolk made a well-judged and very composed 186-6 from their 40 overs with the major contributions coming from Callum Metcalf, 59, and Will Hollis, 36.

When Northants batted there was a steady fall of wickets to go along some disciplined bowling from all the Norfolk bowlers. Northants were bowled out for 119 in the 33rd over, with a superb spell of slow left arm bowling from James Hardy who finished with figures of 7-1-15-3, leaving Norfolk the winners by 67 runs.
