Fakenham Ladies Crowned TGS League Champions

On the same day the men lost out in their quest for the EAPL the Fakenham Ladies won the TGS Norfolk Women’s League after beating Topcroft Ladies in the final hosted by Swanton Morley CC.

Both sides won their respective leagues and therefore met in a winner takes all final last Sunday. Fakenham won the toss and invited Topcroft to bat first in overcast conditions. Topcroft batted well in the first 20 overs with Jane Ray, Jo Dewhurst & Maureen Ellis all frustrating the bowlers. Emily Woodhouse then swung the game in the opposite direction with 4 wickets as Topcroft struggled to score runs. A late flurry from Sarah Banns (19) saw Topcroft end on 92/7 from their 30 Overs.

Fakenham made very light work of the total as Emily Woodhouse (32) and Morgan Burt (45) ensured Fakenham were crowned champions by 10 wickets with over 15 overs to spare. A clinical performance from 2 young Norfolk County players as Fakenham retained their title.

Lewis Denmark (NCB Competition Organiser) “Fakenham thoroughly deserved their victory and it was great to see so many young emerging talents showing their potential. You must give credit to Topcroft though who only in their second season of cricket have made massive steps forward as club and reached the final for the first time. It all bodes very well for the future of women’s cricket in Norfolk.”
