Kent U13 vs Norfolk U13 - Sunday 22nd May 2016 - Sutton Valence School

Kent Won By 53 Runs

Kent U13 - 210 all out
Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 157 All Out

The Hadley Taylor Norfolk Under 13s travelled to Sutton Valence School for their first game.

Kent chose to bat and posted 210 all out. Overall the boys bowled fairly tidily with exception of a poor spell just before the second drinks break. Star man was Paddy Kelly who immediately found a perfect length with his leg spin and picked up 5 wickets.

In replay Norfolk were well set at 111 for 3 after 20 overs before some injudicious shots by the middle order led to a collapse and the loss of 7 wickets for 46 runs. Nathan Shaw top scored with a well crafted 68.

Lincolnshire U13 vs Norfolk U13 - Sunday 29th May 2016 - Long Sutton CC

Norfolk Won By 48 Runs

Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 -
127 All Out
Lincolnshire U13 - 79 All Out

Norfolk won this game despite a largely anaemic display with the bat. Having won the toss and chosen to bat a score of 127 all out was a poor effort reflecting a lack of understanding of the conditions. The exception was Elliot Fox who scored 58 not out and kept his head as wickets fell all around him.

This proved a match winning effort as Lincs, after a decent start, fell apart once the spinners came on, collapsing from 68 for 3 to 79 all out. Paddy Kelly, again, was on fire taking 4 wickets and Ed Taylor took 3. Despite the win the boys will know they must bat better in future.

Norfolk U13 vs London Schools U13 - Sunday 19th June 2016 - Garboldisham CC

London Schools Won By 22 Runs

London Schools U13
- 126 All Out
Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 104 All Out

It is not often a side that is 0 for 2, sees 3 of its batsmen run and bowls 41 wides wins a game of cricket but London Schools managed to do at Garboldisham against the Hadley Taylor Norfolk under 13s.

On a sporting wicket Norfolk allowed London to post 20 or 30 runs too many having restricted them to 68 for 7. However the tail wagged and London managed 126. Dan Bint took 2 wickets with the others shared around. This still appeared inadequate but Norfolk had a poor day with the bat.

After a opening stand of 34 Norfolk lost 4 wickets for 1 run and never really recovered with only Buzz Kemp providing resistance with a gritty 25. This was a day to reflect on letting London off the hook slightly in the field and losing wickets in clusters, two habits the team needs to lose.

Northants U13 vs Norfolk U13 - Sunday 26th June 2016

Won By 23 Runs

Northants U13
- 149 All Out
Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 126 All Out

For a second week running Norfolk lost a tight low scoring game.

Northants were inserted and were immediately on the back foot at 1 for 2 and 16 for 3 thanks to some hostile bowling from Dan Bint and Toby Duncan on a helpful wicket. Norfolk then allowed Northants into the game by allowing S Coleman 4 lives in reaching a hard hitting 50. Each chance was eminently catchable at county level. Northants finally posted 149 with Dan Bint finishing on 4 wickets.

In response the Norfolk innings spluttered but we were never ahead of the game either on run rate or wickets in hand. There were a couple of good catches and a couple dubious decisions which, combined, had a terminal effect on our chances and we fell 23 runs short. If we had held our catches this game would have been won.

Norfolk U13 vs Bedfordshire U13 - Sunday 26th June 2016
- Horsford Cricket Club

Won By 130 Runs

Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 215/5 All Out
Bedfordhire U13 - 85 All Out

Everything finally came together in this game after an inspirational warm up by coach Neil Taylor.

After being inserted Norfolk openers Woodhead and Blowers never really looked troubled and crafted a 100 opening stand with shots all round the ground. Blowers was first out after reaching his maiden 50 and then Woodhead was joined in turn by Kemp and Shaw who kept the scoreboard ticking. Woodhead was finally out for 72 toward the end after a superb innings.

In response Beds were immediately on the back foot with strike partners Bint and Duncan reducing them to 17 for 4. This time we didn’t relent and showed no mercy bowling Beds out for 85 with Bint and Taylor taking 3 wickets and Bailey 2. Hopefully this performance is a portent of good things to come for the team.

Norfolk U13 vs Herts U13 - Sunday 24th July 2016 - Swardeston Hilltops Cricket Club

Herts Won By 26 Runs

Herts U13 - 148 All Out
Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 122 All Out

Unfortunately we reverted to type against Herts and not even the presence of guest George Harrod could save us from defeat. On a very good cricket wicket with plenty of pace and carry, Herts chose to bat and were soon reduced to 10 for 3 with a batsman retired hurt. Dan Bint took all 3 early wickets and revelled in the conditions. Gibbs and Fraser Andrews then batted well until Paddy Kelly bowled Fraser Andrews. He followed this up with 3 more quick wickets and Herts were reeling at 59 for 7. However Norfolk could not finish Herts off and Gibbs batted very sensibly with tail end support ending on 62 not out in a total of 148. Paddy ended up with 5 wickets for 31 including 2 stumpings from his able wicket keeper Jack Robertson. In response, after losing an early wicket Will Woodhead and Buzz Kemp put on 65 for the 2nd wicket in 19 overs so we were reasonably well set. However they fell in quick succession and the middle order never got going. A few lusty blows from Louis Hart and Dan Bint were not enough and we fell short by a familiar margin.

Norfolk U13 vs Notts U13 - Sunday 31st July 2016 - Garboldisham Cricket Club

Notts Won By 55 Runs

Notts U13 - 152 for 6
Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 97 All Out

Norfolk lost the toss and fielded. The whole side bowled with great discipline at some talented players and restricted Notts to 152 on what appeared a good track. The wickets were ahead. In response each of Zach Taylor, Will Woodhead and Tom Bailey got in but struggled to keep up with the required rate. 57 for 1 at the half way point then descended into a clatter of wickets like the week before as the boys found it hard to get the accurate spinners away. This was a disappointing loss against a team we beat last year.

Cambs U13 vs Norfolk U13 - Tuesday 2nd August 2016 - Wisbech Cricket Club

Norfolk Won By 55 Runs

Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 140 All Out
Cambs U13 - 85 for 7

The boys played really well in a game where the elements contrived against us. We were put into bat on a murky, dank day and had to bat through a number of interruptions. In response Cambs were given a reduced target due to the lost overs. Despite this we won. Will Woodhead and Buzz Kemp , especially, batted with fortitude in the difficult conditions and we posted what we felt was a competitive 140 in the circumstances. Once the again the opposition top order were blown away by our openers and collapsed to 13 for 5 with Bint taking 3 and Duncan 2. After that they never recovered.

Bucks U13 vs Norfolk U13 - Friday 5th August 2016 - Bromsgrove

Norfolk Won By 3 Wickets

Bucks U13 - 128 all out
Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 132 for 7

Hunts U13 vs Norfolk U13 - Saturday 6th August 2016 - Bromsgrove

Hunts Won By 3 Wickets

Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 104 all out
Hunts U13 - 106 for 7

Cardiff U13 vs Norfolk U13 - Saturday 6th August 2016 - Bromsgrove

Norfolk Won By 3 Wickets

Cardiff U13 - 68 all out
Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 72 for 6

The tour was marred by poor wickets with no pace or bounce. It was tough for batsmen and our highest score was Nathan Shaw with 38. Buzz Kemp also acquitted himself well. The faster bowlers also found it difficult to generate pace although they kept things tight. Dan Bint still managed to take 5 wickets on tour. The chief beneficiaries of the wickets were the spinners with Joe Beadman taking 9 wickets on tour and Ed Taylor 4. The fielding was keen and noticeably improved over the 3 days after the benefit of some coaching time over the weekend.

Suffolk U13 vs Norfolk U13 - Tuesday 9th August 2016 - Mellis Cricket Club

Match Tied

Hadley Taylor Norfolk U13 - 193 for 8
Suffolk U13 - 193 for 9

A thrilling game went down to the wire with Suffolk needing 2 to win. A good hit was well stopped by Will Woodhead and the game was tied. We batted first on a far better wicket than Bromsgrove and felt 193 was just about par. Zach Taylor top scored with a well crafted 72 and there were also decent contributions from Nathan Shaw, Tom Bailey and Buzz Kemp. In response, the opposition were again in tatters early at 31 for 5 with Bint and Duncan taking two wickets each. Although Ed Taylor bowled well, with 4 wickets, the 6th wicket then put on 120 and took a fancy to the other back up bowlers with Jones batting superbly for his 81. Ed had him stumped just in the nick of time with 14 needed and then it came down to a nerve tingling climax.
