Why Pete?

Peter Free has been a well-known and successful club cricketer on the local scene for well over 20 years. In 2013 he decided to undertake his Level 2 Coaching Award and since then he has proved to be an incredible asset to both his club and also the Norfolk Girls U15 Team, which he had just started managing for the NCB.

Peter has been able to provide an environment for the girls to really develop their game and feel comfortable and as such produce their best performances. He has helped to gel them as an effective unit, working together to get the best out of each other. Importantly, and working with other NCB Coaches, Peter has had great success not only developing the technical skills of the players, but also the strategic element and understanding of how to play in certain situation, adapting their approach to the needs of the game.

In terms of results, the U15 Girls team in Norfolk had always done reasonably well in recent years. However, with Peter’s introduction as coach, a dramatic improvement has been noticed, and in 2015 the team won every single game in their ECB League (most of these in convincing style) and also won all their tour games at the end of the season. This included some key performances from both new and experienced players with most players making a contribution at some point.

Several of these players have already represented the Women’s Team, and that team was promoted to the Royal London Division 3 after winning the Division 4NE title in 2015. The Coach of the Women’s Team commented that these were the strongest set of U15 players he has yet seen and much of this is down to Peter.

He has also ensured a strong link with the Girls U13 team and as a result there is high confidence that these improvements will be sustained with players given the best chance to maximise their potential.

Peter has also contributed significantly to the activities at Old Buckenham CC. Whilst he has worked with all players, he has focused once again on girl’s cricket here, and the results are already being produced, with Old Buckenham CC U13 Girls winning the Lady Taverners Club competition for the first time in 2015. We expect this club to be a leading light in girl’s cricket in the foreseeable future with Peter as lead coach.

Peter has already proved, in a relatively short time, that he is an exceptional coach who delivers results within an environment that players find fun and are able to express themselves.
