Full Finals Evening Report 2016

Old Buckenham Cricket Club have won the Norfolk Cricket Board Winter Indoor Cricket League for a second time after beating both North Elmham and Garboldisham in a closely fought finals evening held at Thetford Leisure Centre on Sunday. (11th December)

Having qualified for finals evening with a perfect record of four wins from four, the youthful Old Buckenham team were full of confidence. In their semi-final they were dominant against North Elmham and came out convincing winners by 69 runs to reach the final for a 4th consecutive year.

Earlier in the evening Garboldisham overcame Snettisham by 11 runs to reach the final. In a relatively low scoring match, Snettisham were makers of their own downfall after conceding 111 extras made up of wides and no-balls which ultimately cost them a chance of winning the match. Nevertheless, Snettisham were an excellent addition to the competition in their first year of the competition and won their group with 4 wins from four.

So the final was between Old Buckenham and Graboldisham for a 3rd time with each team winning 1 of the previous 2 matches. Once again the final was a classic and went down to the final over for a 3rd year in a row. Despite only scoring 233, Old Buckenham regularly took wickets to restrict Garboldisham and come out on top by 5 runs to win the competition.

Competition Organiser Lewis Denmark had this to say about the competition “Once again the indoor league was a real success and it was particularly pleasing to increase the number of teams to 10 in the competition including 3 new teams. Congratulations to Old Buckenham who won a tense final but thanks to all the teams who made the competition a success.”
