Brooke CC takes the South Norfolk Indoor Honours in 2017!

Brooke Cricket club become the latest name on the South Norfolk Indoor Cricket league Trophy, after they successfully beat Hethersett and Tas Valley in a thrilling final. The competition, which has now completed its 3rd season, saw 3 new teams join and a new format take place. The 10-week competition which was played at Wymondham Leisure Centre saw 8 teams battle it out for the 2017 winners title and trophy. The 8 teams were split into 2 randomly allocated groups where they proceeded to play a round robin format to determine a league placing. With these league placing’s a knockout format shaped the rest of the competition.

 

Group A included Hethersett and Tas Vally, Brooke, Drayton and Saxlingham. Whilst group B saw Diss, Cringleford Lodge, Bungay and Hardingham compete against each other. After the round-robinformat H & T Valley won Group A (39 Points), Brooke finished in 2nd place (38 Points), Drayton finished in 3rd place (25 Points) and Saxlingham finished 4th (21 Points). Diss won Group B (51Points); second place went to Cringleford Lodge (39 Points), Hardingham finished in 3rd place (25 Points) and Bungay finished 4th (12 Points).The winner of each group proceeded to play the 2nd place team in the opposing group for the main competition, whilst the remaining teams moved into the NEW for 2017 PLATE competition.

 

The Plate competition concluded with a great final between Drayton and Saxlingham where the later came out on top by a margin of 30 runs. The main competition concluded with a thrilling evening of indoor cricket between Brooke and a Young Hethersett and Tas Valley. After posting an average score of 229net Brooke proceeded to bowl and field impeccably restricting the youth of Hethersett and Tas Valley to 211net. A great end to a fabulous competition!

 

The final Standings are as follows:

Main Comp: 1st Brooke, 2nd H & T Valley, 3rd Diss, 4th Cringleford Lodge

Plate Comp: 1st Saxlingham, 2nd Drayton, 3rd Hardingham, 4th Bungay

 

The 2017 tournament saw a total of 73 players take part across 8 teams, a significant increase on 2016. The matches are always played in great spirit with a thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere, but the competitive element is still fully present. We would like to thank all participating teams for creating this wonderful environment.

 

The Norfolk Cricket Board would once again like to thank South Norfolk Council for their continued sponsorship of the competition and would also like to thank all the 8 teams for taking part in the competition. Jason Reynolds (Competition Organiser) said “It’s great to see some many people committed to play indoor cricket during the winter. Our indoor leagues continue to grow each year and we hear of many benefits the indoor leagues are having on the participating clubs. A real boost for participation and club moral. We hope this can continue in 2018”
