One Broker - Norfolk Boys U14 Season Report 2017

The Norfolk under 14s, sponsored by One Broker, had a tough season in which confidence dropped and form dipped after losing a couple of close games against Middlesex and Surrey early in the year.

The two warm up games saw a win against Lincolnshire and loss against Northants. The Northants side bullied us with the bat and scored 313 off their 50 overs with Dan Bint taking 4 wickets. In response Jack Robertson hit a powerful 80 but we finished 100 short. In the Lincs game, 50s for Will Woodhead and Zach Taylor got us to 201 for 5 and Lincs ended up 11 short with Toby Duncan taking 4 wickets.

Our first ECB match saw us bowl very well at Merchants Taylor School to restrict Middlesex to 172 all out with wickets shared. In response we were comfortable at 65 for 1 but then lost 4 wickets for no runs and eventually fell 25 short despite contributions from Ben Blowers, Zach Taylor and Elliot Fox.

We played very poorly in the next game against Suffolk and our 131 all out was clearly insufficient in a game we lost by 7 wickets. Buzz Kemp scored 47 not out out this game.

The key game this season was against Surrey, a game we lost by one wicket despite scoring 290 for 4. In scorching conditions, Freddie Fairey and Zach Taylor put on 191 for the first wicket with Zach contributing 89 . Another good partnership with Will Woodhead saw Freddie to a superb 124 before he was out. In reply Surrey were tottering at 13 for 3 but Ayush Patel had other ideas and launched a blistering assault hitting 12 6s in a 60 ball 138. When he was out Surrey needed 10 with one wicket left and, in a nail biting finish, Surrey crept home.

Against Essex at Southend a first wicket stand of 214 set a foundation for an imposing 283 for 5 by Essex. In response we were always behind the asking rate despite good contributions from Elliot Fox, Will Woodhead and Tom Bailey, and fell 71 short.

We returned to winning ways against Cambridgeshire posting 309 for 9 with Jack Robertson smashing 93 and Will Woodhead 70. In response Cambs struggled and collapsed to 112 all out with 3 wickets apiece for Kemp and Bradnock.

We then enjoyed a T20 event at Framingham College in which we beat Beds before losing to London Schools.

Our next game against Kent at Norwich School was spoilt by rain. After Kent posted 199 for 8 , with 4 wickets for Dan Bint, the heavens opened and there was doubt the game would continue. When the game did re start the ball kept extremely low and we struggled to 53 all out chasing a revised Duckworth Lewis target.

Our final ECB game against Sussex was also played after heavy rain in the week. Sussex posted 156 all out with Dan Bint taking 3 wickets and we then slipped to 78 all out. The Hertfordshire match was rained off frustratingly after a long journey there.

To round the season off we toured Bromsgrove after further inclement weather. One game was washed out but we beat Guernsey under 15 and Oxfordshire with notable performances from Jack Robertson with the bat and Archie Bradnock with the ball.

Thanks to Tom Davies for his coaching all year. Thanks To One Broker for sponsoring us. Thanks to Horsford, Saxlingham, Mundford, Old Buckenham and Norwich School for hosting us. Thanks to Alison Bradnockforscoring the majority of the games.
