ECB Recommendations on Junior Formats U9-U17 (Dec 2018)

ECB Recommendations on Junior Formats U9-U17 (Dec 2018)

The ECB as the governing boy for cricket in England & Wales have introduced some new recommendations for the formats played in Junior cricket at all levels for U9's - U11's.

These recommendations have been produced following 3 years of research by ECB and are geared around four key areas:

1) Pitch Lengths
2) Length of game
3) Number of players
4) Boundary size

These recommendations have already been shared with the main youth leagues in Norfolk. It will now be their decision as to how these are implemented. On the positive side, several of the recommendations are already part of youth competition at these age groups. The key message for 2019 is to try to get a standard pitch length at all levels to avoid confusion for players, coaches and groundskeeper. NCB are strongly recommending to all parties that the pitch length recommendations are adpoted for 2019.

It may be that other aspects are implented at a later date but as always NCB urge consistency for all competitions where possible and as such the recommendations should ideally be followed for:

1) Club Youth Cricket
2) Schools Cricket

County Age Group Cricket will initially follow the pitch length guidance only.

THE FULL ECB GUIDANCE DOCUMENT CAN BE DOWNLOADED BELOW.

Additionally ECB have also made changes to pitch lengths for older age groups (no other format changes suggested for U12 & U13): See the table below:
