Finals Evening Report 2018

Bradenham Cricket Club proceeded to win the Breckland Indoor Cricket League for the second time after successfully beating Thetford in the semi-final and Garboldisham in the final during our 2018 Finals Evening at Thetford Leisure Centre on Sunday 16th December 2018.

Having qualified for Finals evening after finishing in 2nd place in Group A with victories against Swaffham, Rocklands and Saham Toney and only a single defeat against Hingham who won Group A.

The first semi-final of the evening saw Bradenham take on Thetford. Thetford were playing in their first Finals evening since the beginning of the competition. Thetford began very confidently in this match setting a total of 276net after only losing 1 wicket. A slow start for Bradenham meant they only achieved 40 runs after the first pair but importantly had not lost a wicket so far. The second pair got them up to 196net but the final pair required a massive 83 runs without losing a wicket. Surprisingly to everyone present Bradenham put on a fantastic display of batting and even after losing a wicket finished 3 runs ahead and took the first semi-final.

The second semi-final saw Hingham, winners of Group A take on Garboldisham who were runner-up in group B. Garboldisham were runner-up last year so were looking to go one better this time round. Garboldisham batted first a set a net score of 252. Slightly below par for Garboldisham having lost an unusual 7 wickets. Garboldisham started fantastically with the ball having restricted Hingham to a level 100 after taking 4 wickets in the first pair. Hingham never managed to recover from thus and finished on a net score of 177.

The final saw Bradenham take on Garboldisham. Both teams having won the competition in previous years they were looking to secure their names on the trophy for the second time. Garboldisham batted first and set a net score of 230 after a good bowling performance from Bradenham. Bradenham took the run chase right to the final over and finished on a net score of 237 and wins the final by 7 runs.

Once again the 2018 competition has been a huge success. It’s included 10 teams across 2 groups and 2 venues. The entertainment levels increase every year alongside the standard of cricket being played. The NCB are already looking ahead to the 2019 competition.
