Norfolk U11 Girls vs Norfolk U13 Girls - Sunday 28th April @ Greshams School - Training Match

Orchard Homes Norfolk U13 Girls WON

Challenging conditions saw the first ever game for a Norfolk U11 girls’ squad with a friendly against the Norfolk U13 girls. Fielding first brought a fantastic all-round display with plenty of energy and commitment from everyone in the field led by Captain India taking a couple of tricky catches, and Boo demonstrating a great throwing arm. Esther bravely took the new ball, with wickets shared around (3 wickets for Amelie, 2 for Imogen, Ivy and Ellie, and a caught and bowled for Sophie). There was some great bowling from each of the girls, ably supported by both wicket keepers. Hollie and Evie began the run chase with some elegant shots played early on. However, batting proved tricky going, falling short of the chase against more experienced bowlers, but a brilliant experience for the girls when they face their own age group. A great start to the season for both squads, spirit of cricket in full sight, and lots to build on and look forward to during the summer ahead.

Thanks for Gresham’s School for hosting.

GRESHAMS U13 GIRLS WON BY 22 RUNS

The second match for the Norfolk U11 girls was a T20 friendly which saw them face a strong Gresham's U13 side which included three of their teammates. The weather provided very tricky conditions with the girls having to battle against strong winds and heavy rain showers. Gresham's won the toss and Norfolk were put into the field. The girls produced an excellent performance in the field with contributions from everyone. Esther opened the bowling and gave them a great start by taking the first wicket in the first over. Boo took 2 wickets in the 10th over and the remaining wickets taken were shared between India, Imogen, Amber, Evie W, and Alice. Evie S, as the only wicket keeper for the day, gave a very confident performance behind the stumps and India and Evie W took a great catch each. Gresham's ended the innings 100-8. Imogen and India opened the batting facing the quick bowling of the openers. A few early wickets were lost but the 5th wicket partnership of 16 from Niamh and Sophie steadied the ship. Sophie was then joined by Evie S for another good partnership to continue the run chase. Sophie was given out LBW for 15, and Niamh and Evie S both scored 7. The girls fell short of the target but bravely scored 78 all out from their 20 overs. A great team spirit was shown by all and lots of positives on show to take into their first match against the Cambridgeshire U11 Girls next Sunday.

NORFOLK U11 GIRLS WON BY 6 WICKETS

Norfolk U11g won the toss and elected to bowl. For the first time this season the weather was kind and the girls played in warm sunny conditions at Norwich CC (Postwick).

With some impressive bowling (Ivy 3.3-0-12-3) and fielding from the girls they restricted Cambs to 88 off 29.3 overs. Amber (2) and Boo getting 3 run outs between them. The other wickets were shared between Sophie, Hetty, Amber, Amelie and Imogen. The decision was taken to allow both sides to bowl their 30 overs and if necessary all players to bat and bowl.

In reply, the Norfolk girls knocked off the runs in 20.1 overs. India and Niamh batted solidly until Niamh was out LBW for 10. Ivy and India completed the run chase with India finishing on an excellent 36* and Ivy 8*. We continued to bat through for our full 30 overs and India was eventually out for 46. A super captains innings by India.

The girls showed great team spirit on and off the field. Thanks to Norwich CC for hosting, the umpires, scorers and Neil Taylor. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to teas and to the mums that helped out. The bar has been set very high!!

NORFOLK U11 GIRLS WON BY 43 RUNS

Norfolk U11 Girls lost the toss and were asked to bat in their 30 over match against Suffolk U11g at Brandeston School.

Suffolk soon took advantage of the overcast conditions with 2 quick wickets from Suffolk’s impressive opening attack, however, Evie (21) and India (15) set about rebuilding the Norfolk innings with a well-constructed partnership of 41, before both fell in the 12th over to good catches.

Wickets continued to fall regularly and despite a little ‘cameo’ innings from Amelia (14), Norfolk found themselves 99-9 off 19 overs! There then followed the highlight of the day as Hetty and Ivy set about taking the attack to the Suffolk bowlers. A fine array of powerful shots from Hetty combined with the staunch defence of Ivy (2*), saw the 10th wicket partnership escalate to 49 and, as Norfolk set their local rivals a daunting final total of 147-9. Hetty ended on a wonderful unbeaten 45.

Despite losing 2 early wickets in their reply, the impressive Suffolk top order batsmen of Haynes and Tassell set about the Norfolk bowling attack with gusto and quickly passed 50 in the 6th over.

The match swung back into Norfolk's favour however, when India's 2nd over produced 3 wickets and reduced Suffolk to 58-5. From that point onwards, the Norfolk bowlers never let Suffolk back into the game and they were eventually bowled out for 104 in the 21st over.

Imogen (7-1), Lottie (9-2), Sophie (11-1), Hollie (0-1) and Boo (whose 3 overs went for just 3 runs) all bowled well in the latter overs, well supported by Evie behind the stumps.

It is clear this squad are quick learners and all the girls can be very proud of their efforts and the positive way in which they have gone about their cricket.

SUFFOLK WON BY 4 WICKETS

In the beautiful (drizzly) surroundings of Stow CC, Norfolk won the toss and chose to bat first against a strong Suffolk attack. Ellie and Evie Smith were volunteered to open the batting but, on this occasion, couldn’t see off the opening bowlers. India in at 3, top scored with an assured and quick fired 13. However, Norfolk were 55 all out in the 20th over, and some valuable lessons in batting technique and approach were learned, with 8 girls out bowled.

Although the bowlers didn’t have many runs to work with they gave it a great effort. Ellie and Esther opened the bowling with one wicket a piece off their 4 over spells. First change brought India and Imogen on who took two wickets each. Despite all bowlers returning excellent figures, Suffolk chased the total with 4 wickets to spare in the 17th over, just as the sunshine appeared.

Lessons learned but the girls will take confidence from the fact that if they can stick around for a bit longer with the bat they can certainly bowl out the opposition. Lots to work on and clear messages from Neil to take to Hunts on Sunday.
