The Lady Taverners 2010 U13 Indoor Schools Competition

The first ever County Lady Taverners final at Under 13 level recently took place at The UEA Sportspark. 5 schools, Acle High, Diss High, Lynn Grove, Flegg High and Cliff Park took part in this daylong event with matches played over 8 over’s per side. 

Each team consisted of 8 players with all batting and at least 50% of the players expected to bowl. Runs were scored in the normal manner with an additional two runs added by completing a ‘ single ‘ 4’s and 6’s were achieved by hitting the back wall. 2 runs were also added for every wide and no ball. 

The competition was fierce with the teams quickly picking up tactics and rules of the game. Scores averaged anything between 40 and 50 with Lynn Grove achieving the highest on the day with 77. Matches were played on a round robin basis with each playing each other, 3 points for a win and 1 for a loss with a league table to determine the winners. 

3 schools, Cliff Park, Flegg High and Lynn Grove each won 3 matches and lost the other to each finish tied at the top of the table on 10 points. Runs scored during the tournament therefore decided the outcome with Lynn Grove coming out as winners having scored 225, Flegg High were a close second with 212 and 7 runs further behind were Cliff Park. A clean sweep for the East Norfolk SSP ! 

Congratulations to Lynn Grove ( pictured ) now go on to represent the County at the regional finals on 20th April in Hertfordshire 

Kieron Tuck, Cricket Development Manager congratulated all participants for their efforts and each received a certificate in recognition. He also presented the Lady Taverners trophy to the winning team together with individual medals with the runners up receiving a bat signed by the India Women’s T20 world cup squad together with individual medals.
