Norfolk 50's Match Report v Lincolnshire 50's Trial II

Norfolk Over 50 2nd XI opened their 2010 season with a trip to Boston to provide opposition for a Lincolnshire O50 Trial XI.


Batting first, Norfolk raced to 80 for 2 off 14 overs thanks to opener Kevin Denmark 48 & Mike Tooke 38. Lincs then found some tight bowling with White conceding just 6 runs off 5 overs & Wilkingson 9 off 5 overs. Only 61 runs were scored off the next 16 overs. David Bowker 14, John Ruddick 30, Randolph Lofthouse 11 & Ritchie Davies 11 all reached double figures. For Lincs, returning opening bowler Danby wrapped up the innings with 3 late wickets & a run out to leave Norfolk 199 all out in 42 overs.


 
Lincs reply was circumspect as 1st XI captain Mark Lester & Robin Yates restricted them to 20 for 1 off the first 10 overs. Mike Tooke as first change accounted for no's 3-5 with 3 for 48 but opener, ex-RAF debutant, Lumb 94 scored comfortably. Skipper Mike Banham finally had him caught by Lofthouse attempting to hit a six to win the match & reach a personal century. Lincs got home to win by 6 wkts with 6 overs to spare.


 
Norfolk 2nd XI continue with an away game to Herts on election day whilst the 1st XI start their O50 Championship with Bedfordshire visiting Fakenham on May 12th. The Norfolk O60's, National champions, warm up with a Friendly on May 4th at Mundford against a 2-Counties XI with their first Shepherd & Neame Championship match against Essex on May 11th at Hethersett & Tas Valley. The new O60 2nd XI will also play in a mini-league for 2nd XI's & they play their first match on May 13th against Hertfordshire at Mattishall.
