Aylsham St Giles open new net facility

On Wednesday 28th April, at Aylsham Recreation Ground, Aylsham St Giles Cricket Club opened their new practice net facilities to club members.   The opening was conducted by Kieron Tuck, ECB Cricket Development Manager for Norfolk.

This represents the culmination of a sustained period of fundraising, which has seen the club raise over £17,000 of grant funding.   The practice net represents a state of the art facility, in addition to which the funds have been used to purchase a motorised roller for the cricket square, and a waterhog water remover.

At the opening ceremony, Jeremy Cocks, club secretary, thanked the following sources of grant funding:   Sport England, which provided £10,000 of the funds, is working with local communities to get people playing more sport.   Broadland District Council provided £3,712 through their Community Capital Grant Scheme, The Lords Taverners a further £2,800, and Norfolk County Council £1,000.   In addition, he thanked Kieron Tuck and the NCB for their support of these projects, and the Aylsham Recreation Ground committee for their cooperation in the siting of this new facility.

The club aims to use the new facilities for both coaching of juniors, and for practice for adult members.    Regular, Wednesday evening sessions are now underway, and will continue through the summer, starting at 6pm for under 17s, and 7pm for adults.   Anyone interested should contact Jeremy Cocks (01603 250519) or Philip Clark (01263 733197), or simply turn up on the night.
