Putting Herts into bat on a variable Letchworth wicket, Norfolk restricted their opponents to 96 for 3 at the 22nd over drinks break. It required the partnership of first change bowler Ritchie Davies with wicketkeeper Randolph Lofthouse to have both openers Rothband 44 & Stephenson 20 stumped in consecutive overs after 1st wkt partnership of 60. Colin Jackson bowled Martin 12 before Herts debutants Summer 65, & Griffith 58 added 100 in 11 overs of carnage. Robin Yates returned to have Summers removed by Lofthouse's 3rd stumping only for Golder 39* & Dexter 22* to add 51 unbeaten at the end.
The large total was quite daunting with Norfolk 76 for 5 at the midpoint drinks. Randolph Lofthouse 29 & Andrew Scholey 17 were the early contributors. Adrian Bryan 33 & debutant Neil Bridgstock 89, added 60 for the 6th wicket, before Bridgstock went after the bowling in a stand of 80 with Colin Jackson 17* which left Norfolk more respectably 52 runs short of a large target. Lawless 3 for 25 & Golder 2 fpr 42 were the main Herts bowlers.
