O 60 v Suffolk

O 60 v SuffolkO 60 Spitfire

Norfolk’s fortunes changed dramatically as they fought back in both sections of the match to, in the end, comprehensively defeat visitors  Suffolk by 6 wickets with 36 balls to spare.

An amazing performance. Suffolk, inserted, started in full flow and Wing Commander Cole, promoted to No 1 (from No11) attempted so many Kamikaze runs that it is truly amazing that the tax payers haven’t had to pay for a new jet or two, seeing how he is obviously an inveterate risk taker! Neil Hames had the fielders in fits, and on quite a few occasions the WC ran 40 yards without scoring at all. However, the score was rocketing and Hames hit the 100 mark (personally) in over 30. And then, luckily for Norfolk, threw it away. From 170-2 in 30 overs, Norfolk fought back and the visitors scored 52 more in 15 overs, losing 7 more wickets. Bad batting and great bowling by Peter Brown and Richie Davies .
Chasing 222, Norfolk’s early order collapsed, Rice (10), Taylor (0) and Davies (6), showing the score at 21-3 in 9 overs. Martin Pearse (28) and newcomer John Lund, repaired the situations somewhat, till Pearse played on for the third successive innings with the score on 80-4 in 20. Ian Battelley joined Lund and the pair systematically dismantled the previously accurate Suffolk attack, blasting 145 in 19 overs, Lund (81) and Battelley (57) both unbowed and crucially unbeaten!

A brilliant win!
