Dersingham St Georges crowned ASDA Girls Kwik Cricket County Champions

On a glorious sunny day at the wonderful Fakenham Cricket Club ground, St Georges Primary, Dersingham emerged victorious, and were crowned County Girls Kwik Cricket Champions for the first time in this competition.
8 girls teams from across Norfolk were involved in the County Final, organised by the Norfolk Cricket Board, one team from each of the 8 School Sports Partnerships in the County. This meant that for the first time the final was a truly County wide affair.
The teams were divided in to two groups of four, and each team played three games before lunch within their group. Early on perennial finalists Mundesley looked strong as always, with last years runners up, St Williams also starting well. At the end of the group phase, four teams had qualified for the semi finals of the main competition, those being Bradwell, St Georges, Mundesley and St Williams. The remaining teams were entered in to the afternoon Plate competition. These teams were Attleborough, Toftwood, West Earlham and St Mary's (Long Stratton).
A close series of games followed, leading to a final between St Georges and Mundesley (pictured right). A wonderful game of cricket played in an excellent spirit saw St Georges emerge as winners by 8 runs, with the game going right down to the last couple of balls.
St Wiliams won the 3rd place play-off against a spirited Woodlands team, and therefore qualified for the Regional Final along with Mundesley, as St Georges were unable to attend the Regional Final.
Toftwood were the winners of the Plate competition, defeating Attleborough by 40 runs.
Full results and group standings are available to download below.
Woodlands picked up a special 'Spirit of Cricket' award of a signed World T20 bat.
Thanks must go to Fakenham CC, Colin Brassett, Kevin Denmark, Dean Futter, Tim Marshall, Keegan de Ridder and Mick Annand without whom this day would have not been possible. Special mention must also be made of Roger Sweet and his competition team, not only for their help on the day, but with organising the entries and local finals for schools, prior to the County Final.
Overall this was an excellent day of enjoyable cricket for all concerned, and we hope that these girls will retain and develop their interest in cricket.
