Umpires
The Association was founded in 1967 when the Norwich and Kings Lynn Branches amalgamated. It is affiliated to the ECB Association of Cricket Officials (ECB ACO), and the Norfolk Cricket Board.
The objects of the Association are to foster interest in, and improve the standard of umpiring and scoring, to further the interests of cricket by instruction and examination and to maintain and promote friendly relations with all cricket organisations especially within Norfolk and East Anglia.
It operates in close co-operation with the Norfolk Cricket Alliance to provide a panel of umpires to officiate in that league, as well as catering for the umpiring requirements of the two Norfolk County Senior Cup Competitions, namely the Carter and NCUSA competitions. It also provides umpires to the Minor Counties Cricket Association, ECB East Anglian Premier League, Mid-Norfolk Sunday League and to Norfolk Youth Cricket - both male and female.
The Association provides training courses to prepare aspiring umpires and scorers for the ECB ACO examinations, which can lead to Qualified Umpire and Scorer status, as well as for those who just wish to learn more about the MCC Laws of the game. They are now in possession of the very latest 'Power Point' equipment for training purposes, which is a great asset; by now enabling them to teach the Laws of Cricket and their definitions in a way that has now greatly reduced the need for lengthy written examinations, as they now consist of multi-choice questions.
Any member of the Association - which at present has an annual membership subscription of £10 - can be considered for match appointments. Full details of the Association's activities, membership and training can be obtained from the Secretary, Nigel Ward at nigel.ward001@btinternet.com
