The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has today opened registration for kids to sign-up for Dynamos Cricket, a new programme for 8–11-year-olds designed to encourage boys and girls to have fun, make friends and fall in love with cricket.

With outdoor cricket returning on 29 March, kids finally have the much-needed opportunity to get outside, get active, make friends and – importantly – enjoy the summer! Dynamos Cricket is the perfect opportunity to do just that, with kids due to take part in one of two 6-12-week courses running at clubs and sports centres across the country:

  • During the summer term, beginning 7 May
  • Over the school holidays alongside The Hundred (Jul-Aug)

Each week, participants will develop new cricketing skills including batting, bowling and fielding, plus they will have the chance to play a fast-paced and exciting game of countdown cricket – a new format that mirrors The Hundred competition launching this summer.

The programme is complemented by the free Dynamos Cricket app which contains loads of exclusive content. Kids will be able to learn new skills, take part in interactive quizzes and unlock videos and challenges from key players from The Hundred.

Launched last year but postponed due to the pandemic, Dynamos Cricket is designed for children graduating from the All Stars Cricket programme for 5-8-year olds – which is also open for registration from today. Dynamos Cricket is also perfect for those who are totally new to the game.

Families also have The Hundred to look forward to this summer – a brand new 100-ball cricket competition, fusing epic entertainment with high energy sporting action. The Hundred will feature eight brand new, city-based teams with women’s and men’s competitions running alongside each other with equal prominence. The competition will open up cricket, making it more accessible to families and young people, designed to help inspire the next generation to believe that cricket is a game for them. Kids that sign up for Dynamos will receive priority access tickets for their family, as well as receiving a whole host of free gifts and money-can’t-buy experiences associated with the competition and its partners.

Commenting, The Hundred’s Welsh Fire and England men’s player, Jonny Bairstow said:

“As a kid I was constantly outside playing sport and being active with friends and family. The past year has been tough for everyone, but I can’t imagine what it has been like for kids. That’s why it’s great news that they can finally get out there again this summer. Having seen some Dynamos sessions first-hand, I can honestly say they are so much fun! All the kids have big smiles on their faces and that’s exactly how it should be. I can’t wait for that type of energy to be present at The Hundred this summer – it’ll be amazing seeing the Dynamos kids and their families cheering us on.”

Also commenting, ECB Director of Participation and Growth, Nick Pryde said:

“We are delighted that the Government’s roadmap allows for our kids participation programmes – Dynamos and All Stars Cricket – to safely take place outdoors. After the past year, it’s so important that kids get active, socialise, learn new skills, have fun and make friends. Both these programmes have been designed with kids at the heart. We listened to what they wanted from their activities and built programmes that are fun and beneficial. Both programmes are designed to be gender neutral and inclusive of children of all experiences and abilities, so all kids can be inspired to play, engage and watch cricket.”

Parents can find out more about Dynamos Cricket and register their children to take part at dynamoscricket.co.uk.

They can also sign up their younger kids up to the ECB’s All Stars Cricket programme for 5–8-year-olds at allstarscricket.co.uk.
