ECB Recreational Concussion Guidelines 2025

3rd July 2025

The ECB have re-issued their Recreation Concussion Guidelines for Recreational Cricket across England & Wales. We strongly encourage all stakeholders including leagues, clubs, players and officials to familiarise themselves with the guidelines.

To clarify, there are no changes to the protocol around concussion management and return to play. The updates are purely cosmetic with a refreshed design to make the information clearer and more accessible.

The key points of these guidelines are still:

  • If in doubt, sit them out.
  • Anyone with a suspected concussion should be assessed by a Healthcare Professional (a doctor or calling 111) within 24 hours.
  • There should be NO return to competitive cricket before 21 days following a concussion (including at least 14 days symptom free).

The document is attached to this post, and can also be found on the ECB’s concussion page: www.ecb.co.uk/concussion

To reiterate—this is not a change in practice, just a clearer presentation of the existing guidance.
