27th September 2024

Former South African professional cricketer, Neil Hornbuckle has been appointed as Norfolk Cricket Board Head of Performance Pathway.

Born in Bloemfontein, Neil moved to Norfolk in February 2022 having played for South Western District between 2014 and 2021. Upon moving to the county, Neil joined Horsford Cricket Club where he remains today as first team captain. During his time in Norfolk, he has been working at Gresham’s School and will vacate his role as Assistant Director of Cricket to take on the role with the Norfolk Cricket Board on a full-time permanent basis.

Now aged 33, Neil will head up the boys and girls county pathway cricket programme in Norfolk and take over the position that was vacated by Chris Brown in January 2024.

He will formally start the role at the beginning of November but is no stranger to pathway cricket in Norfolk having coached on the Boys Emerging Player Programme and with the U18 Boys in recent years.

Cricket Development Director, Lewis Denmark commented “We’re thrilled to welcome Neil into the role as Head of Performance Pathways. This is an exciting opportunity to develop the boys and girls talent pathway in Norfolk. Building upon the strong foundations that have been laid by Chris Brown and the excellent set of coaches and administrators over the last few years.”

Neil Hornbuckle is looking forward to the taking on the role “I’m excited to work alongside some of the most talented cricketers in Norfolk. My role will focus on ensuring we provide the right environment and opportunities for each player to succeed, while fostering a lifelong passion for the game. The pathway has already produced exceptional players, and I’m eager to continue building on that legacy.”
